POSTAL services in Hampshire are beating Royal Mail targets.

New research shows that in the “SO” postcode area, 93.4 per cent of first-class post was delivered the next day during the last financial year.

In the “PO” area, which covers Fareham and Gosport, 93.9 per cent of first-class mail was delivered the next day during the same period.

Both results are ahead of the national target, which is 93 per cent.

Royal Mail says new technology and better equipment and working practices are speeding up deliveries.

Operations director Geoff Braden said: “Royal Mail’s target for next-day delivery of first-class mail is one of the highest and most challenging next-day performance targets in Europe.

“It’s down to our local management and postmen and women who are determined to deliver the best possible service to our customers.”
