A MEMORIAL garden for the last survivor of the Titanic will be dedicated today near the entrance to Southampton’s new £15m SeaCity Museum.

At nine weeks old lifelong Southampton resident Millvina Dean was the liner’s youngest passenger.

As previously reported, a specially designed garden has been laid out alongside the city’s new Titanic themed museum in memory of Millvina, who died on May 31, 2009, the 98th anniversary of the launch of the ill-fated White Star liner.

The Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Derek Burke, will formally dedicate the garden at 2pm, joined by David Hill of the British Titanic Society, Una Reilly of the Belfast Titanic Society, and the Rev Julian Davies of St Mary’s Church in Southampton.

The Millvina Fund underwrote the project with a sizable grant funded by donations received from around the world.
