PLANS for a spectacular fly past by the Red Arrows hang in the balance this afternoon amid dismal weather conditions.

The iconic aircraft were due to roar across the skies over Southampton's Mayflower Park at around 6.20pm today bringing to a climax a showcase day of Jubilee celebrations in the city.

But with rain lashing down, organisers have said this afternoon that a decision will be made soon as to whether it gets the go ahead.

The Red Arrows are scheduled to power in to view and perform one of their famous displays above Cunard's Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria which all docked in the city at dawn.

Earlier this afternoon the Red Arrows were also involved in a spectacular flypast over Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Diamond Jubileee.
