Hampshire police making progress in tackling yobs

A REPORT on how well Hampshire police tackles anti-social behaviour has found the force should do more to identify repeat victims.

The assessment by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary found that the force was making progress and was broadly in line with victim satisfaction levels across the country.

However, it found that call takers were not always able to identify repeat victims of anti-social behaviour and did not always ask enough questions in establishing the vulnerability of the caller.

The report entitled ‘A Step in the Right Direction’ comes two years after an initial assessment into how well the force dealt with anti-social behaviour.

It found that since 2010 Hampshire has increased training for safer neighbourhood teams and invested in mobile data technology, providing all neighbourhood officers with hand-held devices to increase the amount of time they are out in the community rather than filling in forms in the station.

Chief Inspector Jeremy Patterson, partnerships and neighbourhoods lead for Hampshire Constabulary, said: "Since the time of the inspection, the constabulary has already made a significant commitment to improve our response to callers reporting anti-social behaviour including improvements to identify repeat and vulnerable victims.

"Hampshire Constabulary will continue to take reports of anti-social behaviour seriously and remains committed to working hard with the public and partner agencies to reduce the impact it has on the quality of life of all residents."

HM Inspector of Constabulary for the Eastern Region, Zoe Billingham, said: “Anti-social behaviour is a blight that can wreck lives and communities. Our review shows that Hampshire Constabulary has made progress in how it tackles the problem, and victim satisfaction is in line with the average for England and Wales. The force should be commended for this – especially as it comes against the backdrop of significant budget cuts across the Service.”

I wouldn't wish to be a Police Officer in this day and age.

Whilst claiming to make progress in tackling yobs, for every yob they tackle the yobs breed 10 more.

It's like bacteria, they just breed without anyone wanting them to.

Good luck to Hampshire Police, you'll need it!

Every right-minded, responsible citizen wants to support the Police. They play a key role in making our streets and neighbourhoods safe.

Sometimes, they put their lives on the line to protect us, even though they may never have met us. How incredible is that!

They can get a bad press because all professions contain a few corrupt, dishonest individuals who bring disrepute upon their profession and tarnish the overwhelming majority within that profession.

The so-called "Chav Culture" seems to be a relatively recent development in our Society. "Yobs" have existed for Eternity it seems to me!

"Chavs" and "Yobs" are a blight and a menace to honest decent folk.

To single out either in terms of:

" . . . for every yob they tackle the yobs breed 10 more.

It's like bacteria, they just breed without anyone wanting them to."

Seems simplistic. No? Equating humans who behave despicably and create untold misery for others as "bacteria" is a crude argument to make.

After all, crime knows no boundaries and crime or "yobbish" behaviour straddles all strata in Society, from the dumbass who keys someone's car to the greedy banker who decimates thousands of people's pensions.

I'm not sure it is a question of "breeding".

The phrase: "there but for the grace of God" springs to mind.

You, personally, like any mother on this Planet, could have invested all your skill and love in bringing up a child to be a smart, well-rounded individual with an attracive set of personal morals, only to find at the age of 18 they go right off the rails and cause you heartache, bewilderment and shame. It happens. Look around you at your friends or work colleagues or relatives.

Don't make the mistake of assuming I condone or minimise "yobbish" behaviour. I don't. I abhor it as much as you or the next person.

I simply make the observation that refering to anyone as "bacteria" is a crude argument and a unpleasant sound bite ( or should that be word bite? )

But they have a job to do and with out them the "Yobs" and "Scum" would rule.
Do you want that and support that?

The public should support them( the Police) more and report yob activity.

As for bacteria.. well the parents delivered these individuals into the world and did not teach them right from wrong.
They (the parents) themselves appear not to know or understand right from wrong so, it spreads like bacteria from one generation to the next.
They all are scum.

That's an unfair comparison. It assumes that bacteria are inherently A Bad Thing(tm). They're not. Bacteria are responsible for a lot of good things in life. They aid our digestive system. They give a lot of food it's taste. When something bio-degrades, that's bacteria at work. Let's not ignore all the great work bacteria do for us, eh!

Ladies should of course carry a big heavy one in their handbags, not sure what good it would do me to carry one however as I don't believe the apparent cannabis induced rantings of any of the Middle Eastern religions.

I think some people on this thread are referring to the kind of people who are giving evidence at the shirley towers inquest this week. Absolute vermin and they were breeding at the time, they should be exterminated.

Pithy, word-crafted comment. As ever, you approach an issue via an interesting glancing tangent.
