IT promises to be the biggest sporting extravaganza the country has ever known.

Britain is under starters’ orders for a summer to remember as billions of people around the world turn their gaze towards the London Olympics.

Hundreds of athletes, rowers, gymnasts and cyclists are adding the finishing touches to their preparations in what will be a career-defining month of competition for our sports men and women.

Among them are a number of Hampshire hopefuls including t h r e e - t i m e Olympic gold medal-winning sailor Ben Ainslie, from Lymington, and Southampton’s Olympic silver medal-winning diver Pete Waterfield.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to line the streets of cities, towns and villages when the Olympic torch relay makes its long-awaited arrival in Hampshire in ten days’ time.

And with excitement reaching fever pitch, we want to know what you are doing to join in the summer of celebrations.

Young Wellow School pupil Connor Glenn, 4, got the chance to hold the Olympic torch when his father Philip Glenn – who will be running with the torch – popped in to the school to show youngsters.

Maybe you have had a chance to hold aloft the Olympic torch or perhaps you are holding a jubilee-style street party when the relay goes past your home?

Are you part of a sports club screening a hotly anticipated event or do you have a family member who’s competing in the sports bonanza?

Be it taking part in a school sports day or dancing the night away at an Olympic-themed party, the Daily Echo wants to hear about it.

Over the coming weeks we will be featuring reports on how schools, residents, businesses, community groups and sports clubs are making the most of the Olympic spirit.
