A WEAPONS engineer from RAF Odiham will carry the Olympic torch tomorrow.

Corporal Lee Hale, who works in the north Hampshire base’s armoury, will run with the torch at Saxmundham, Suffolk, between 1pm and 2pm.

The 41-year-old was nominated for the role by his wife Lisa, and will be supported by his three sons Mark, Aaron and Bradley.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to carry the torch. This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime things that money can’t buy that I will remember for the rest of my life.”

Cpl Hale has served in the Royal Air force for 15 years in Cyprus, the Falklands, the Middle East, Afghanistan and UK bases.

For ten years he has been a volunteer at branches of the Samaritans in the UK, including at Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk, and has also raised money for charities by running half-marathons and marathons.
