BEING a resident of Campbell Road, Eastleigh, I am concerned over the amount of heavy goods vehicles that use the railway bridge on an almost daily basis.
This bridge was built in the early 1900s and its main use was for light goods and pedestrians.
It is largely made of wood, which can be seen on hot days when the road surface melts and builds into ridges.
It is now used by heavy goods vehicles to carry train carriages of all descriptions.
These vehicles are the type which must be steered from the rear to negotiate the bends on the bridge.
The weight restriction plate has been removed from the bridge. Why?
Due to the age and structure of the bridge, this must raise questions.
This is the only access to Campbell Road.
Using the bridge either in a vehicle or by foot is extremely hazardous, as the bushes, trees etc have not been cut back to enable people to see what is on the bridge prior to crossing.
No one seems to be taking responsibility for this bridge.
Even speaking to local councillors of all parties is a waste of time.
MR C F SIMPSON, Eastleigh.
