Roadworks on Millbrook Road West in Southampton completed
4:59pm Thursday 12th July 2012 in News

The work on Millbrook Road West
THEY have caused misery for thousands of motorists, but urgent roadworks to repair crash barriers on Southampton's busiest road have been completed ahead of schedule.
Southampton City Council said the work to replace more than 200 metres of the central reservation on Millbrook Road West had been finished in “record time”.
It has taken just over two weeks for contractors Balfour Beatty to complete the work, which the authority had said needed to be done in time for Saturday's visit of the Olympic torch relay.
One lane in each direction has been closed between Millbrook flyover and Waterhouse Lane throughout the work, causing severe delays, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.
City transport boss, Cllr Asa Thorpe said: “There's no easy way of saying this, but these works were always going to cause delays for motorists.
“Road safety is our main concern and we had a window of opportunity to replace the crash barriers.
“This work needed doing and doing urgently before someone got seriously hurt. I apologise again for the delays caused and thank motorists for their patience over the last week.”

According to the map of the Olympic Torch Relay, the route will go nowhere near Millbrook Road.

Well done for finishing in record time. I have just heard on Wave105 that the Traffic Management is still in place and will be removed over night, just to warn anyone who thinks it may be a clear run tonight.

You could argue they could have opened the road whilst waiting for it to dry, but then for safety reasons how would they be able to monitor the drying process if the safety measures are removed?
It's completed early, for which we should be thankful :-)

they never replace the whole block of concrete just about 6 inches around the post, the rest of the block is still the same block and could have mirco fractures.
It takes about 10 days after the concrete has set to become nearly max strenght, it would still be class as green concrete up two years after.
But yes one good thing is that they have finished a day earier, all they need to do now is get the Romsey road finished.

I bet TUSC would have ensured there would be no delays and the job would be done properly to last at least a million years.
