A RHYTHMIC gymnastics dance troupe from Southampton have struck gold by performing on ITV1’s Olympic competition show this week.

Alien Zoo wowed a star-studded judging panel with their acrobatics, ribbons and hoops routine in a hope to go on and compete in the final of the talent contest.

Over three shows, Let’s Get Gold pitted 15 sporting teams against each other as they tried to transform their sport into the most spectacular and entertaining routine.

The show’s aim was to find groups with the best technique, skill and creativity.

Alien Zoo was one of the 15 teams that were selected by the production team after a nationwide search and consultation of the nation’s sporting bodies.

This comes after their choreography was performed by the GB Team at the Olympic Test Event in January at the O2.

In April, it was confirmed that the routine would be performed at the London Olympics this summer.

But national status is just the beginning of the troupes achievements so far this year.

In May, Alien Zoo had successfully taken their Infinity production to The Brighton Fringe Festival.

The group not only specialise in rhythmic gymnastics and acrobatics, but their aim is to blend street dance, contortion, circus skills, ballet, contemporary dance and tricking. Their plan is to push and promote their unique blend of art and sport.
