POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two people died in a serious road crash last night.
A 20-year-old motorcyclist and the 46-year-old driver of a 4x4 were both killed after their vehicles collided at the junction of Park Road and Lushington Hill, in Wootton, on the Isle of Wight.
The male motorcyclist, from Newport, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene but his pillion passenger, an 18-year-old man, also from Newport, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries when he was thrown from the white Yamaha R6 motorcycle.
He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where he remained overnight.
The driver of the light blue Toyota Rav4, from Ryde, died in hospital six hours after the crash, which happened just after 11pm.
The road was reopened six hours after the collision.
Officers are now urging any witnesses who saw the crash or either vehicle moments before, to come forward.
Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Darren Ord, at Hampshire Constabulary’s Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh on 101, quoting Operation Beckley.
