I TOTALLY agree with Lionel Pepper’s Soapbox letter, August 4, about the Naked Rambler.

Let’s not forget Stephen Gough was once a marine prepared to lay down his life for Britain. He must have seen and experienced some atrocious sights in war-torn areas. Some marines can never live “normal” lives again, and are given endless treatment for their psychological problems.

How do we know why he now feels the harmless need to be naked?

Rather than sorting out any deep rooted problems – he’s serving more than six years in solitary confinement – that’s gratitude for an ex-marine and hero.

M MATCHAM, Hythe .
