Lifeboat called away from Hythe raft race to deal with man with broken leg

LIFEBOAT crews have been called away from the annual Hythe raft race to help a man on a jet ski who broke his leg.

Hundreds of people have lined the shore to cheer on dozens of competitors in the annual event.

However a crew from Calshot lifeboat had to be diverted to deal with the emergency in Southampton water.

The raft race takes place every August and helps raise vital charity funds. Scores of people have taken to home-made rafts to take part in the spectacle, including the Daily Echo's very own Ghostbuster themed team.

Why is this news again? Sure, he broke a leg while jet-skiing, sure a lifeboat crew had to be diverted from a raft race, so what? that's why they would have more than one crew there, to cover for another crew if they have to be called away for another incident.

And why shouldn't we be recognised for the work we do on the water we all give up our family time etc to put our selves at risk to help others!!!

What this doesn't say is that Hamble Lifeboat were also tasked (and first to arrive on scene) along with the coastguard mobile unit. The casualty was already ashore at Calshot beach.

First aid was rendered before the man was taken by air ambulance to hospital.

This article makes it sound like only Calshot lifeboat was involved in this.

What about the other emergency services? Do you think they don't put THEIR lives on the line? They don't get in the paper each time they save a life but you don't here them complaining or asking for more coverage, they just tell it as it is, doing their job, I hope I never need you as part of a lifeboat crew, you'd be more worried about getting your face on the front page than saving my life.

Actually all the land based emergency services also have volunteers and I agree, they all should be recognised for their services but you're missing my point, most emergency crews don't get a lot of coverage in the news, the only times that they might is when it's something big but non of them complain about not being in the news for every cat they rescue from a tree, every bit of first aid given, every arrest or every rescue whereas you ARE complaining, so sit down and shut your big gob before calling people idiots you tit.
