A SOUTHAMPTON woman had her necklace stolen while being hugged by a stranger in broad daylight.
The 64-year-old Asian woman was walking in Derby Road when she was approached by two women, one of whom called her “mum” and hugged her.
During the embrace the woman’s £1,000 gold necklace was stolen from her neck.
The two women are described as being tanned or of Asian appearance. They both had dark, shoulder-length hair and were aged 35-40.
PC Claire Sheehy said: “The incident took place during daylight hours at a time when people would have been returning home for the day. They may have witnessed the three women and the embrace, thinking it involved family members.”
Anyone with information about the theft, which happened between 6pm and 7pm on August 20, should call PC Sheehy on 101.
