Naked rambler goes on trial

Naked rambler goes on trial Naked rambler goes on trial

A Hampshire man will go on trial today accused of committing a breach of the peace by walking close to a children's park while wearing no clothes.

Stephen Gough, 53, known as the ''naked rambler'', was arrested on Friday July 20 in Townhill, Dunfermline, Fife.

He is accused of conducting himself in a disorderly manner and committing a breach of the peace by walking naked in Cairncubie Road, close to the play park, and refusing to put on clothing or move away from the park.

Gough, from Eastleigh , pleaded not guilty at an earlier court hearing.

He chose to represent himself rather than be given a duty solicitor.

His trial is due to begin at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

LOL at another one of the Echos headlines this morning "Theif steals necklace in hug", is thief really that difficult to spell. Shocking they don't even do a simple spellcheck before publishing stories.

Hopefully, most young children do NOT know what a naked man looks like. And if you don't believe its a problem - why ask your granddaughters to look away?

Do none of you allow your children to see you naked at home? Im not saying I support this guy or it's ok to walk around public places naked but im in awe of those who seem to be having a problem with nudity..! Educate your children don't make them fearful, disgusted
or naive to the human body..!!

I think this man is an attention seeker.
If he wants to ramble naked fine, go rambling in the countryside.
Do what most naturists do and go somewhere that will not cause offense.
Right or wrong society dictates we either conform or go somewhere away from society.

Ironically, not even Specsavers can lay claim to coming up with it. Remember "should have gone to Radio Rentals?"

I still cant understand why he forgoes clothes but still insists on all the other equipment like a rucksack, mobile phone, a hat and sandals. Come on man, if you are truly naked and not just some sort of sex pest, lose the rest!

I'd like to see him do Lands End to John O Groats with nothing On and no gear, drinking from rivers, feeding off the land and sleeping in trees. If he manages it, he should be able to appear naked anywhere in the UK unharassed for the rest of his days!

Why? He clearly desires to walk naked, believes in his right to do so and is prepared to be jailed repeatedly for it; perhaps he should simply be ignored, after all, why should it be a criminal offence to appear in public exactly the way we all arrived in the world?

I just don't think if he was sane then he would act like this or at the very least do this is a warmer country!

Because it's not socially acceptable - sorry, but it's just not - full stop.

Obviously not to you but then again you may well do things he finds socially unacceptable, it's just a matter of perspective isn't it?
I cannot see why all the fuss and allegations of mental illness just because he doesn't want to conform to your and others' view of socially acceptable - it is just a bloke hiking whilst naked, nothing more, nothing seedy, and still in parts of the world totally natural, leave him alone.

LOL, you can't question his sanity just because he's doing something you wouldn't. I wouldn't either incidentally!
That said there may well be many others who'd like to do the same but haven't the dedication or preparedness for the ridicule & negative attention he's received. Good for him I say, for continuing his trek knowing full well every time he refuses to cover up Plod nicks him.

I would ask one question; what exactly is the difference between what he's doing and such as the naked bike rides that seem well supported?
There really appears none yet presumably because he's solo he can be prosecuted unlike 200 cyclists.
Silly, the longer they take incarcerating him the longer his walk will take and the more it will cost in policing etc; surely cheaper to get a couple of chaperones walking ahead with placards warning "danger, naked man approaching"
