Man arrested after woman plunges from rail bridge
A HAMPSHIRE man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman plunged from a bridge and on to a railway line.
The 20-year-old woman was last night fighting for her life in Southampton General Hospital having suffered serious arm, leg and pelvic injuries.
Police detained the 25-year-old man shortly after she fell 30ft on to the tracks at Pokesdown Station in Bournemouth yesterday morning.
Witnesses described hearing woman, who is from the seaside town, scream before she fell.
Lennie Knott from Southbourne was on the platform when it happened.
She said: “A woman and a man were having an argument on the bridge. We didn’t see her fall but she was screaming.
“She was still screaming when she was on the tracks.
It was awful. She seemed to be conscious when the paramedics brought her up. We all stayed down there. Noone really knew what to do.”
Witnesses or anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 2:194 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
