Pony deaths on Forest roads continue Pony deaths on Forest roads continue

A NEW Forest pony was killed in an accident on the B3054 at Hill Top, near Beaulieu.

The roan mare died just 24 hours after a bay filly was injured on another section of the same road.

She was involved in a collision with a vehicle near Hatchet Pond, despite wearing one of the special collars that reflect car headlights, making ponies more visible at night.

On the same day a chestnut roan filly was injured in a hit-and-run accident at Shepherds Gutter.

The reflective collars are only of use if a horse happens to be standing side on to you. If they have their heads or backsides towards you they are not visible. Also, they get grubby and less reflective with time.

Not wishing to excuse poor or inconsiderate driving (if that is indeed the case) but these collars are not going to prevent every accident.
