Southampton plays host to Extreme Events Europe's Monster Truck stunt show
1:56pm Wednesday 5th September 2012 in News
METAL-crunching mayhem came to Southampton last night as the Extreme Events Europe stunt show rolled into town.
More than 1,000 spectators descended on Hoglands Park to watch daredevil exhibitions from freestyle motocross bikes, buggies, Jeeps and monster trucks as they roared around the temporary arena.
Fans knew they were in for a treat from the moment stuntman Jez Avery kicked off the entertainment with a series of wheelies on his motorbike, before the action got hotter with bike jumps, a motorbike that drove through fire and quad bikers performing spectacular stunts on just two wheels.
A crippling car crash followed, and then the human torch, which involved a stuntman being set alight and walking over 100 metres, before the highlight of the show – the giant monster trucks, Lil Devil and Extreme crushed five cars.
Organiser Ian Batey said the show’s success means the tour will return to Southampton.
He said: “It went really well, the crowd helped the drivers go for more stunts. We will definitely be back next year.”
Fan Gemma White, 27 from Woolston , said: “It was brilliant, the best bit was the motorbikes, they were amazing.”

I'd have loved to take the nipper to this, but only saw a poster after the event. Where are Southampton's events publicised?
I look on the council pages from time to time, but they're swamped with knitting groups and macrame exhibitions.
