A SOUTHAMPTON resident was rewarded for her recycling efforts when Councillor Asa Thorpe presented her with a brand-new flat-screen television.

Darryl Harding, fromWoolston, entered the competition during Recycle Week, in June, when she took her worn-out electricals to the city depot and recycling park, in Millbrook . Darryl said: “I was thrilled to learn that I’d won the competition and will be sure to recycle my old television.”

Millbrook councillor Asa Thorpe, Cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Recycling is very important, firstly to make sure we leave the planet in a better way than we found it, and secondly it helps us save money.”

Reusable items taken to the depot are donated to local charities or sold as spares. Everything else is recycled.

Almost seems like he's actually trying to make up for his wife's stupid comments on here. Also there should be a space between "from" and "Woolston".

It would be interesting to hear how much the Council gets paid for recycling, as the recycled plastic, glass and paper etc. is a valuable resource.

Especially the electrical connections in high end devices and stuff, they normally contain gold since gold is the best for conductivity but only used in expensive items like iphones and stuff due to the value of gold, a lot of HDMI leads use gold too.

It'll take more than that to secure my vote. I bumped into him when he was doorstepping during the last campaign. Tried to engage him in conversation to ascertain his views on important issues, but he responded in an extremely rude and abrasive manner. If he can't be bothered to talk to the electorate about his position on important matters, my cross goes elsewhere, and I'll let as many people as possible know of his attitude.

The guy that was accompanying him on the other hand, was friendly and helpful, and apologetic for Thorpe's bad manners. Shame he wasn't running himself.
