Schools urged to make most of free films

The annual festival, which last year saw nearly half a million students and teachers attend screenings around the country as part of the scheme, which is designed to support the in-class curriculum.
Southampton’s Harbour Lights, Odeon and Cineworld cinemas will all be taking part in the event between October 15 and 26, showing new and recent films including War Horse , Hugo , The Artist , Brave and The Muppets , pictured.
Stephanie Fenner, head of social sciences at The Burgate School in Fordingbridge , said: “It encourages students to view films that perhaps they would not independently access, this is often quite thought-provoking.
“It is an event that students see as a treat and it brings groups of different people together.”
