RESIDENTS of a Winchester neighbourhood held their third annual street party to help foster community spirit.

Cathedral View in Highcliffe was closed to traffic as tables, chairs, gazeboes filled the carriageway.

Some 120 residents from the ‘Old Highcliffe’ roads of Cathedral View, St Catherine’s Road, Canute Road and Highcliffe Road were invited along to meet the neighbours.

One of the organisers Vivien Austin said: “I think it was the best one we held. There have been quite a few new residents during the past year and everyone enjoyed getting to know each other.”

They held a BBQ and staged street games and there was a trampoline, table football, face painting, glitter tattoos and of course, music.

The event is held in memory of lifelong Saints fan and Cathedral View resident Dennis Kimber who died in 2009 and first suggested the idea.

Vivien said: “Dennis would have been thrilled to see his idea celebrated every year.”

She thanked the city council and Neville Crisp (traffic engineer) for their support. “It has been really helpful over the legal notices. They are quite encouraging. In some places the councils can be quite difficult.”
