Southampton is getting creative in Bugle Street today in preparation for the Tudor Michaelmas Fair.

Tudor Revels will be running a free workshop where participants of all ages can create banners with the help of artist, Alys Scott-Hawkins, ready to carry during the procession of St Ledger, taking place Sunday, September 30.

Processions were a common event in the lives of Southampton’s Tudor residents, but the most important one was the procession of St Ledger, which will be recreated as part of the weekend-long Tudor event, The Michaelmas Fair, visiting churches of the old town and hearing about their history.

Those who participate in the procession are invited to bring banners they have made at home, at this, or the previous banner making workshop, or banners to promote clubs or organisations.

The workshop will run between 10am and 4pm at St Josephs Church Hall, Bugle Street. People of all ages are welcome, but advised to bring their own lunch and suitable clothing.
