Shamed police officer Matthew Cherry: I want to see my son

Daily Echo: Shamed police officer Matthew Cherry: I want to see my son Shamed police officer Matthew Cherry: I want to see my son

Prosecutors told how Cherry had tried to persuade Caroline Craft to have the pregnancy terminated and the relationship “disintegrated completely” when she refused.

A witness at the trial recalled him saying ‘it would just be easier if Caroline would miscarry or if I could punch her in the stomach’.

But as he waited for the verdict he told the Daily Echo he had become positive about being a dad and was hoping to see his son.

“I just want to see my little boy because I never have.

“I’ve only ever seen a picture of him when he was six hours old.”

He said the case had been hard for his parents, who live in Lytchett Matravers.

He said: “My mum and dad have never been able to see their first grandchild.”

Well maybe if you hadn't tried murdering your unborn child they would have had a chance. They must be disgusted that their own son could do such a thing.
You'll never see you son, and no doubt he will in time learn you tried to snuff him out before he was born, and despise you.
Anyway have fun in prison, will they thow a party for you when you turn up?

At least she had some kind of proof (I'm guessing she did?). My ex threatened to kill us when baby was two months old but now conveniently denies it. These 'men' just don't know how to control themselves when someone says "no". They don't like not having control over things/people. He has a heck of a lot of cheek to expect a happy reunion with the child he tried so desperately to kill.

Well said. Sadly I guess people like this try to be all smiles and worm their way back into the good books. Sometimes, they even succeed with the right amount of guilt-tripping and manipulation but a leopard never changes his spots. Ironically facebook profile pic is of son - "baby and mum doing well" ???!!!! Too little, too late? in denial? or hoping to throw the jury off track?? Presumably the photo he mentions and he's lucky to have that. Unless his parents metaphorically threw away the key, I would think she might feel they don't have her son's best interest at heart - It must be very hard to find you have created and raised such a spoilt monster with the ability to pre-meditate such horror when things don't go according to his demands. I pity them for that at least. Inmate Cherry, hope you have plenty of thinking time... and be released only when you are too old to find a woman willing to risk bearing you any children in the future, for her sake.

"I just want to see my little boy".
Why?
Do you want to try and kill him again?
Prison is full of fathers.
They are separated from their children because of the stupidity that they did.
They are going to love you!
An ex cop, a person who tried to kill a baby!
ENJOY!!!!!

I'm sure the other prisoners will.
And why wasn't the charge attempted murder?
Can anyone explain that please?
Is it because the child was in-utero... because I thought that if a pregnant mother is killed (thank god this is the case here) and the baby died too it would be a double count of murder (?).
Curious as to how the CPS built their case, but regardless at least this evil monster has been sent down. A lesson to all his peers.

Pretty sure it's to do with the baby not being born yet so, technically, you can't kill a child that hasn't actually been born. It's a point of law although, in my mind, the morality of the offence is no different and I'm pretty sure the court probably saw it the same way. Hence the big (and rightly deserved) sentence.
