A man has been rushed to hospital with severe head injuries, following a car crash in Romsey

A man was rushed to hospital last night with severe head injuries, after his car smashed into railings on a Hampshire road.

The 26-year-old male was taken to Southampton General Hospital following the crash in Romsey, at around 12.15am.

The man was driving a green BMW Cabrolet from Palmerston Street towards the A3057, when the accident occurred on the Romsey bypass road, near the Rapids of Romsey.

Fire crews from Romsey, Redbridge and St Mary's rushed to the scene to cut the man free from his car.

Police were this morning unable to confirm further details about the incident, or provide any update on the man's condition.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Andy Lynch, on 101, quoting Operation Callerton.
