THIRTEEN men from across Southampton donned their handbags and glad-rags to take part in a series of races through the city streets.

There were frills and spills as participants competed in three races, sporting colourful dresses, heels and lipstick.

Part of the city was turned into a running track for the evening, as contestants sprinted through Simnel Street, French Street and Bugle Street to the finishing line at The Titanic pub.

The unique event helped raise more than £800 for Cancer Research UK.

One of the organisers of the race, Jay Jay Kempson, said: “It was a really great do.

“Everyone went for it with the fancy dress – lipstick, eyeshadow, blusher, you name it.

“It was a great laugh and we raised a lot of money in the process.”
