A CORONER has recorded a death by unlawful killing on a Hampshire grandmother who was murdered by her daughter-in-law.

Southampton coroner Gordon Denson heard how Baljit Kaur Buttar, from Portswood , was bludgeoned to death with a wooden rolling pin on February 25, 2011.

Mrs Buttar was found by paramedics in the bathtub after they received emergency calls to visit her house in Broadlands Road. She had suffered several fatal blows to the head in a bloodsoaked bathroom.

Earlier this year, Rajvinder Kaur, 37, the wife of Iqbal Singh, was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment at Winchester Crown Court for the death of the 56-year old woman, known as “Bibi”.

The court heard there were tensions in the household due to dowry payments and that Mrs Buttar had been complaining about a lack of a dowry.

Mr Denson described her death as “sudden” and “dramatic”

“I am fully aware that all the event and events were ventilated in the criminal trial which led to her daughter-in-law being convicted,” he said.

“Under the circumstances I can only record that the cause of death was due to head and neck injuries. I therefore record a verdict of unlawful killing.”

To be fair though, on the day in question Ravinder was heard to say, 'I could murder an Indian'.
