A Hampshire woman died after being struck by a car as she crossed a roundabout, an inquest heard.
Jennifer Kimber had been walking home while she crossed the Hardley roundabout and stepped out into the path of oncoming vehicle.
Mrs Kimber, of New Road, Hythe , had been seen walking from across the roundabout from the centre of the junction with the A326 Hythe Bypass when she was struck by a grey Skoda Fabia.
The 60-year-old died two weeks later at Southampton General Hospital .
The car which hit her had been driven by Helen Kennedy, who said that she had seen a man in a red jacket cross the road.
Police sergeant Gabriel Snuggs said: “She recalled wondering why he was there because there was no path. There was then a sudden bang.”
Gordon Denson, deputy coroner for Southampton said Mrs Kimber was coming off the centre of the roundabout from the driver’s right-hand side and was probability looking to her left.
It is believed that Mrs Kennedy had been driving below 60mph speed limit allowed at that roundabout and was not under the influence of drink or drugs.
Mrs Kimber’s family said she had been visiting the dentist before the incident on January 6 and had not been drinking or on any medication.
The identity of the man in the red jacket seen walking near the roundabout is not known.
Mr Denson recorded a verdict of accidental death.
