Image of man wanted in connection with Delia Hughes murder probe to be projected onto buildings

Police step up Delia murder hunt Police step up Delia murder hunt

HAMPSHIRE police today revealed it is stepping up efforts to identify a man who they want to speak to in connection with the murder of a Southampton pensioner by projecting his image on buildings in the city.

To coincide with the four week anniversary of 85-year-old Delia Hughes’ death, officers will be trying to increase awareness about the man they want to speak to by projecting CCTV images of him onto buildings in the Woolston area of Southampton where he was last seen.

Bluetooth messaging will also be used by officers to circulate details of the man in the hope that someone picking will be able to identify him.

The appeal poster will also be displayed by the force’s Marine Unit during the upcoming PSP Southampton Boat Show , while cinemas in the city are also screening the man’s description and images to their audiences prior to the main feature film.

Detective Superintendent Tony Harris said: “Despite saturating the area with a description and images of this man through the local media, social media, the distribution of appeal leaflets and by displaying posters, it has became clear from our house to house enquiries that not everyone is aware of our interest in this man.

“We have therefore had to look at alternative communication channels to bring this to the attention of as many members of the public that we can.

“ By sending out Bluetooth messages and projecting images onto buildings, we hope to achieve this. We also appreciate the support being provided by the local cinemas as this too enables us to potentially reach an even greater number of people.”

Anyone who can assist the investigation team is asked to contact Southampton Central police station on 101 or Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting Operation Anglian.

I hate how events always have to be referred to with the sponsors name - PSP Southampton Boat Show.

What apart from pretty good cctv of the guy and the knowledge he probably lives in the Woolston area?

Well he was seen early in the morning in the Woolston area and again a few hours later after the murder. Also even if the CCTV is poor someone might recognise him from his clothes, bag ect...

All the CCTV images and videos of this male show him as a pedestrian.
If there are no results in the house to house enquiries, has any thought been given that after he turns out of view from Bridge Road and into Tankerville Road, did he have access to a vehicle to leave the area, with or without an accomplice driver, and that he/they used this location purposefully to avoid parking in Ocean Village.
Tankerville Road, Defender Road, and Peartree Road all have exits back onto Bridge Road, whilst Sea Road and Hazel Road provide a route from the same area in a Southerly direction.
If there are any CCTV cameras on or adjacent to these four exits and routes from the area, they could possibly reveal any vehicles being driven at the relevant time that morning.
It also seems to me in my opinion, that this person may not have as much local knowledge of Woolston / Itchen as has been assumed, as there is a more direct / quicker route by foot from Itchen Bridge using a footpath that leads over the railway to Defender Road, and then ahead and right into Tankerville Road.
If he is/was resident to that part of Itchen, and therefore most likely to know of this routes existence , what reason did he have at the time to be using a more protracted route via Bridge Road on that morning ? This leads me to think he may not be local to the area.
