Confusion over inquiry into rebel councillors

Daily Echo: Cllr Don Thomas Cllr Don Thomas

CONFUSION surrounds an investigation into two rebel councillors in Southampton after regional party bosses told them they had been suspended but local enforcers insisted they were still deciding their punishment.

Coxford councillors Don Thomas and Keith Morrell were put under investigation by local party whips in July after they voted against budget cuts to Oaklands Swimming Pool in Lordshill .

It has emerged the pair were this week told by regional party chiefs that the whip has been withdrawn for four months.

But the Southampton Labour group’s chief whip, councillor Cathie McEwing, last night insisted that no decision had been made.

She said an investigation into their conduct had not been concluded and “due process” was being followed. She said the investigation had been delayed due to the summer holidays.

Opposition Tory leader Royston Smith said: “They are being treated appallingly by the Labour party for sticking up for their constituents.”

The Coxford councillors declined to comment on the investigation but Cllr Thomas said he was frustrated at how long it was taking.

Its nothing to do with being dis-jointed. Messrs Thomas and Morrell are simply campaigning on behalf of their ward, exactly as they did for Erskine Court when the Tories were proposing to throw out the OAP's that lived there so they could demolish their homes.
I that happens to be against the party whip, then so be it. I say they are men of honour standing by their principles, and I say that as someone who doesn't think Oaklands is worth the investment.

Yes I suppose as a raving right winger it is not something you have - a social conscience that wants to help others instead of yourself.

And the Tories under Royston Smith were NOT dis-jointed, which is why they received a massive vote of confidence in the Council elections.

Really? Unite orchestrated Industrial action with Unison to Tarnish the city council & get a Labour council & you agree with that?
The TUC are now threatening the Government into doing as we say or face Industrial action?
Smacks of being a bit familiar doesn't it?
Unison & the council & Unite came to an agreement only for said Unite to walk out & say they never agreed sound familiar?
Now the Unions are willing to scrap the holy of holies legal action for a deal that would see those under £17,500 worse off & only those above £17,500 up to £22,000 will get a rise with the rest waiting until the same date the Tories were restoring pay 2014 how's that a good deal for the work force?
The Tory council put forward projects to improve & increase the housing in Townhill Park yet Labour without consultation wanted to put through a new road tear down a Copse & spend £50million more?
We were having a Snowdome + ice Rink Labours scrapped it.
we are suppose to be having an expanded Mayflower Park is it happening?
Central Train Station development was started by the Tories yet Labour claims it's there idea.
Energy from the Waste Burner yet another Tory proposal yet it's a new idea by Labour?
New Vegetable Market is it still going ahead?
Lordshill Master Plan with a New Pool is it still going ahead?
Thomas & Morrel are playing a good game of securing those seats for Labour or don't you believe that's what they're up to?
Erskine Ct they were promised Modernisation instead they get Flats & some have already left.
I've had enough of you rose tinted Labour supporters making out that the Tories were no good for this city.

As for Messrs. Thomas and Morrell, methinks they are playing politics within their own party! Another sign of Labour's disarray!

During the process of moving from left of centre to right of even Thatcherite Tories and rebranding Labour into New Labour under allergic to truth Tory Blair, this Party has not only ditched virtually all real 'Labour Values' but has also in many cases given up on very basic 'Principle of Socialism'--- 'Socialists should not lie to people'.

Perhaps some of us are now too old that we are slow in realising that these days NuLabour has become unofficial right wing of Conservatives and do not even pretend to be socialists anymore.

Only reason Milliband's mob may not be calling themselves Tory could be because within Conservative Party there still are some old fashioned Tories who believe in dignity and word of honour and they do not want anymore arrogant and out of touch posh people in their Party, because they have plenty of those already.

So hardly surprising in eagerness to prove they are the the latest version of ever evolving NuLabour here in Southampton under Dear Leader they are trying to prove that they can come up with bigger whoppers than even Blair did over Iraq War.

It actually started before May elections, when the dishonest NuLabourites stayed conveniently quite on closing Oaklands Pool and destroying jobs.

Within few days of getting into office Dear Leader got exposed by the press for allegedly lying over real reason for the resignation of one of his cabinet members.

Then it came out in the Council meeting that the 'Lie' was casually signed off by the Deputy Leader because in her position she is de facto ''Controler' of the Group.

As it transpired at the last Council meeting The Dear Supreme Leader is mostly away busy with his own life style of better than even many yuppies and champagne socialists. So is often missing from office.

Keeping up the new trend a prominent cabinet member went on to endorse foul mouthed insults of his wife directed at us, the citizens of Southampton.

Hardly surprising that now NuLabour Chief Whip Cllr McEwing has decided not to be left behind in full of Whoppers Statements Race. Knowing her I am not at all surprised.

Perhaps she should have the decency to explain why at the last Council meeting not only seats normally allocated to Cllrs Thomas and Morrell were allocated to her other members and also why Don and Keith were made to sit on their own with gap between them and other NuLabourites???

So come on Cathy tell us the real truth, surely it could not be a precaution to stop loyalty to voters exhibited by Don and Keith spreading to others?..

While at it perhaps NuLabour's Chief Whip could also explain if Cllr. Spicer abstaining on recorded vote was genuine or part of plan to save her skin in Coxford, where thanks to Don's hard work, him and Keith keep on campaigning for the people they are exceptionally popular and your controlled Cllr. Spicer is having grief?

Is it not the fact that you NuLabourites had not realised that Tory Cllr. Moulton will call for recorded vote so one odd person arranged to be either out of the chamber or arranged to sit quietly will not be noticed.

If that was not the case why when Cllr. Moulton called for recorded vote there was virtual panic in NuLabour ranks and why your Mayor Burke tried to tell Cllr. Moulton that his demand for recorded vote was too late, when both I and former Labour Councillor Sue Fletcher had to shout from public gallery confirming that Cllr. Moulton was right and if siting in public gallery where although sound is not good even we heard him why could not Cllr Burke the Mayor?...

Come on NuLabourites admit you have become addicted to dishonesty and arrogance has become your style.

You lot are basically cowards who have not even got the guts to tell the truth that you have suspended two decent councillor for four months, could not expell them because you dare not face possible by-elections in Coxford after closing the pool that was built by us from old Labour.

NuLabour councillors are not only expert at finding banana skins these Dear Leader led allergic to telling the truth and full of arrogance stuck up snobs have become best asset for Tories.

Sadly unless people start campaigning hard, they will remain stuck with NuLabourits for few years; as consequence Southampton will suffer.

Peter,
Yes there is possibility of you making Cathy sweat BUT to do that you will have to change your approach.

Oaklands is in the news at the moment, it may not be the case in 2014. Political world moves very fast.

It has been proven that you have certain solid base in Redbridge. So you should be asking yourself how can you build on that.

As your well wisher even I am not convinced that you are always straight and do not try to pull fast ones, as you tried to do with me other day by trying to bluff that you have forwarded email on Rahit Maryada from SGPC supporting your self produced rubbish to me. But could not show it in my in box on my portable device.

I am not trying to pick upon you, simply trying to give you constructive advice. Ordinary people are fed up with main parties because of their frequent spins, they are desperately looking for honest people in public life, to make progress you should be bending even backwards to fill that gap.

Yes you are putting in lots of hard work all over the place for your party, but I get the impression not doing much on door steps of Redbridge. For earning votes you should have started campaigning on local issues already. Mug shots in Echo on the eve of elections will not suffice.

Try observing how Don works in Coxford. That is why he is respected even by his opponents.

Sadly unless people start campaigning hard, they will remain stuck with NuLabourits for few years; as consequence Southampton will suffer.[/p][/quote]So Paramjit a Tory Councillor stuck by his word & called for a recorded vote? So do you think the electorate will see who the liars are now? loosehead

Local Tories care Lisa for the ordinary people of Southampton.
If the Tories were in control people would be treated properly.
Anyway good luck and best wishes to you and your family, at least your dad has a loving daughter.
