IT is a popular celebration that has entertained thousands of Hampshire villagers for a decade.

Now, after being scrapped last year due to a lack of volunteers, the Hiltingbury Extravaganza will be back with a bang next weekend.

More than 4,000 residents are expected to flock to the Hiltingbury recreation ground, in Chandler’s Ford , on Sunday, September 23 to take part in a host of activities.

Organised by the Hiltingbury Comm-unity Association, this year’s family fun day is set to include a dog display team and performances from the Thornden Wind Band and local dance troupe, Dance-8. Youngsters will also be able to enjoy pony rides, surf simulators, segway races and an assault course throughout the day, which runs from noon until 5pm.

Organisers of the event also plan to offer rides in a tethered hot air balloon, depending on the weather conditions on the day. A host of stalls serving hot food and refreshments will also be on site throughout the action-packed day, and there will be a range of market stalls.

All proceeds from the event will help pay for new audio and video equipment to be installed at the Hiltingbury Community Centre. For more information on this year’s event, or to volunteer to help out, ring 023 8027 1609 or log on to thehilt.org.uk
