TWO people were injured when a light aircraft crashed near a small airfield, police said today.

The two-seater plane came down in a wooded area close to Popham airfield in Hampshire just before 3pm.

The pilot and passenger were taken to hospital but their injuries were not believed to be serious.

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: “Shortly before 3pm police were called following reports of a crash of a light aircraft near Micheldever and Popham.

“Officers attended the scene and it was found that a two-seater light aircraft had crashed.

“Both the pilot and the passenger have sustained injuries but these are not believed to be serious at this time.

“Both of them have now been taken to hospital and officers remain on the scene.”

It is not known where the plane had taken off from or where it was travelling to when it came down.

They say that lightning never strikes twice, but this was the same aeroplane which ended up in a garden at Netley Marsh 9th September 2010 it had only just been rebuilt, hope the occupants are OK.
