THE much-admired model of Winchester in 1870 is to go on public show in the Great Hall early next year.

The recreation of the Victorian city by retired planner Roger Brown will be on display from January 21 until February 16 next year, and not from tomorrow as incorrectly reported in the Hampshire Chronicle newspaper.

The model has been shown in the Great Hall in 1994 and in 2002 and was also on display at the Intech science centre at Morn Hill.

In recent years the model has been in storage at the County Museum Service.

Mr Brown, 88, of Harestock Road, who made the model in 1987, said: “I am pleased that the county council has agreed to show it again in the Great Hall. I am now partly blind so a small group of kind volunteers hope to repair the very minor damage it has suffered in its days on display.

“I hope as many as possible will take this opportunity, possibly the last, to see it while they can.”
