HEALTH bosses have launched a scheme to help Hampshire mums do what comes naturally in public without feeling uncomfortable.

The Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme has already got 50 businesses on board, who will display a distinctive sticker in their window to show mums they are welcome to breastfeed there.

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and Eastleigh Borough Council hope the project will encourage more mums to breastfeed their child for longer in public without feeling embarrassed.

Health visitor Tanya Iatrou said: β€œAt the moment 85 per cent of mums breastfeed newborns, but that drops off to 45 per cent after six to eight weeks. We need to try to give women every encouragement and support to carry on breastfeeding as long as they want.”
