RESIDENTS have again raised concerns about the impact of housing on a former allotment site in Winchester .

Radian wants to build social housing on land behind Cromwell Road, Stanmore.

An earlier planning application for 12 homes was rejected by the city council in 2010 after 50 residents objected.

A new plan has been submitted for the demolition of 110-112 Cromwell Road and the building of nine affordable homes.

But nearby householders says the proposal includes a road over the roots of several trees covered by tree preservation orders.

Mrs Collins says if approved a dangerous precedent will be set that could lead to the damage of other trees covered by TPOs elsewhere in the district.

The developers say the ‘no dig’ system will preserve the trees but Sarah and Robert Collins, of Airlie Lane, Sleepers Hill, say there is dispute among experts over the potential damage.

Mrs Collins is concerned that the city council is the planning authority but also the landowner and will benefit financially from the development.
