BOAT users have been warned to slow down after a man was fined for travelling up to five times the speed limit on a river.

River Hamble Harbour Authority says speeding on the stretch of water “will not be tolerated” after prosecuting a motorboat owner.

Aaron Brown, from Skylark Meadows in Whiteley, was ordered to pay £335 at Southampton Magistrates Court after being caught travelling between 25 and 30 knots on the river where a six knot limit applies.

Chairman of the Harbour Authority, Councillor Keith Evans said: “This is a positive result and we hope this case will act as a deterrent to others in the future.

"Speeding can cause serious accidents and we encourage all users to be considerate of others’ safety while on the river.”

More damage is done to the Lymington River by small boats than the Ferrys, not much is done about that.
