Brave cancer sufferer's charity ball mission
A WOMAN with incurable cancer is holding a charity ball to help other sufferers.
Ruth Willrich is holding the sell-out event at the pavilion of the Cromwell Arms, in Romsey today and 200 people are expected to attend.
The 47-year-old, of Wellands Road, Lyndhurst , was diagnosed with several neuro-endocrine tumours in her liver in January 2010.
Since then she has had an operation to remove the slow growing tumours and has had a form of chemotherapy and 75 per cent of her liver removed, but they will slowly grow back and have to be dealt with again so she has to also take drugs to keep it at bay.
It does shorten her life expectancy.
She gave up her job as a sales consultant for Yellow Pages a year ago to spend more time with her 11-year-old daughter Georgiana Maunder, who will be at the event along with other family and friends.
The Planets (Pancreatic Liver and Neuro-Endocrine Tumours) charity was started 18 months ago by specialist surgeons at Southampton General Hospital and aims to raise £100,000 this year.
Ruth promised said she would hold the ball when she heard about the charity when she was having treatment in 2011.
