Fire at Southampton recycling centre

FIREFIGHTERS were today tackling a smouldering blaze at a recycling centre in Southampton for a third day.

Piles of domestic rubbish have been on fire at the site in Willments Shipyard off Hazel Road on the Itchen riverside since Friday morning.

Crews from across the city were sent to the smouldering fire over the weekend in a bid to extinguish the fire.

But fire fighters may have to remain on the scene for several days amid fears it may reignite.

The air stinks in the area. I wonder how toxic it is?
