HAMPSHIRE'S Chris Packham will be the face of the BBC's Winterwatch when it launches next year.

The programme will start in January with a four-night run hosted by the regular Springwatch and Autumnwatch team of Chris, Michaela Strachan and Martin Hughes-Games.

Show bosses are also moving Autumnwatch - which returns to BBC2 on October 30 - to a new location for its next run, with filming taking place at the Aigas Field Centre, in the Scottish Highlands, by the River Beauly.

The show's camera crews will visit wild spots around the UK, reporting on the seasonal changes and developments, as well as taking an in-depth look at red deer and bird migration from the Arctic.

The BBC said Winterwatch will be ''following the same format and allowing viewers to catch up on all the developments as the seasons change''.

Autumnwatch cameras will be relaying images 24 hours a day online and on red button services from October 28 to November 2.

he used to come into my parents bakery in Portswood years ago, and was always thouroughly pleasant. I met him in Clowns one night, where he was playing a quiz machine and he got a question about the ear size of African and Indian elephants wrong. From that moment on, I thought he was a ****. Still, I do like Autmunwatch, and think Winterwatch will be just as good.
