Warning of three years in jail Warning of three years in jail

A REPEAT offender has been warned he faces at least three years imprisonment after breaking into the home of his former girl friend and her family in Totton.

They returned home from a week’s holiday to discover they had been burgled after an extractor fan had been removed and a hosepipe had flooded their conservatory.

Southampton Crown Court heard Nicholas Ruff had been the former boy friend of Rebecca Yates and when her father Adrian checked the garage he discovered his motor cycle was missing.

Ruff, of no fixed abode, was convicted of burglary and taking the motor cyclist without consent. He was further remanded in custody for sentence in December when a judge will have probation and psychiatrist reports.

After returning their verdict, jurors heard Ruff had 20 previous convictions, including three for burglary, and was in breach of a suspended sentence imposed for driving while disqualified.
