THE Southern Daily Echo is leading the way in the nominations for this year’s prestigious EDF Energy London and the South East of England Media Awards.

We have been nominated for 12 awards, twice as many as our nearest competitor, including Daily Paper of the Year, a title we currently hold, and website of the year.

Two of our reporters, Jenny Makin and Tara Russell, are in the running for daily print journalist of the year, while picture men Paul Collins and Chris Moorhouse are up for news photographer of the year.

We also have nominations for sports journalist and digital journalist of the year, best feature writer, specialist journalist and community campaign as well as two nominations for designer of the year.

Daily Echo editor-in-chief Ian Murray said: “This is a fantastic achievement. I’m very proud of the team and this is a reflection of all the hard work and effort that everyone has put in over the past year.”

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced on November 1.
