A HAMPSHIRE man has been ordered to carry out community service after using Twitter to racially abuse a former Premier League footballer.

Matthew Smith admitted sending an offensive message to veteran Israeli defender Tal Ben Haim via the micro-blogging site in August.

The 33-year-old, from Andover, made the comments as Ben Haim, 30, was in the middle of a contract dispute with his former club Portsmouth.

Magistrates in Andover told Smith he must complete 40 hours of community service.

Yet another Pompey player Yann Nsaku has been arrested on terrorism charges. So don't be too hard on people impatience.
