Sex attack near Southampton Central train station
5:14pm Monday 8th October 2012 in News
By Patrick Knox, Senior Reporter
The attack happened near Southampton Central Rail Station
A YOUNG woman was indecently assaulted in the early hours as she walked home from a night out in Southampton.
The lone 20-year-old was attacked by a pathway approaching Southampton Central Train Station, on the same side of the road as Toys R' Us.
The woman then fled to the taxi rank outside the station and got into a cab.
DC David Wheeler of Shirley CID, who is leading the investigation, is today appealing for witnesses.
He said: “Did you see the assault and think, perhaps, it was some other sort of incident? Are you a taxi driver who was at the train station at that time and who recognises the description of the woman as one of your fares?”
The victim was about 5ft 11ins tall in high heels. She has long blonde hair and wore a light coloured dress with a dark blue blazer jacket over the top.
Her attacker was white, in his 20s, 5ft 11ins tall, wearing a dark blue plain hoodie with the hood up and covering his mouth. Only his eyes and nose could be seen.
The incident happened on Thursday at about 1.40am.
Anyone with information can contact DC Wheeler at Shirley CID on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
