Councillors on Ageas board

The Ageas Bowl The Ageas Bowl

PLACES on the board at the Ageas Bowl are set to be allocated to councillors.

Eastleigh Borough Council has committed £30m to a project to build a luxury hotel at the West End sports ground, pictured, along with buying the lease of the facility for £6.5m.

Members of the borough council will now sit on the company’s board to act as a “critical friend”

and make sure the council’s “interests are safeguarded”.

The Daily Echo revealed last week that the company behind the home of Hampshire cricket lost more than £3m in 2011.

A total of three appointments to the board will be made from the council – an Ageas Bowl wider site representative, a hotel development representative and a community trust representative.

The representatives will be able to attend board meetings and make representations – but will not be entitled to vote.

Nice chance for a corprate freebie, why not give one of these roles to a local taxpayer?
