Star Wars convention raises cash for Daily Echo-backed charity Star Wars convention raises cash for Daily Echo-backed charity

AN ARMY of intergalactic beings landed for The DEF CON 1 Star Wars extravaganza in Totton.

The event was the first organised by Wayne and Carol Streak and their SO16 Troopers costume group but it proved a hit with Star Wars fans, raising more than £2,800 for the Daily Echo’s Every Step Appeal for children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.

The Streaks were inspired to host this event for the appeal after they received endless help and support from the charity when their son Logan, now six, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer when he was just nine months old.

The appeal is looking to raise £40,000 for the charity to support ten families fighting cancer at Southampton General Hospital.

A fabulous event which raised funds for a really excellent cause!

Don't forget there's another event on at the Empire Hall this weekend, the Baby & Children's Market with fundraising stall for the fabulous Naomi House hospice.
