Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed a man verbally threatening a girl on her way to school yesterday.

The incident happened when a man approached a 10-year-old girl at around 8.10am, on the junction of New Road East and Tennyson Road.

The girl ran to a friend’s house nearby after she was verbally threatened by the man. The victim was not physically harmed in the incident and the man didn’t attempt to touch her or to follow her.

The suspect is described a white man, 30-40 years old, 5ft 4ins to 5ft 6ins tall, skinny, with a round face with a flat nose and short beard.

At the time of the incident he was described as wearing a grey hoody and dark blue / black jeans.

PC Jackie McMurchie, who is investigating the incident, said: “While the young victim was not physically harmed, she was understandably shaken up by this incident.

“Fortunately this is a rare occurrence and there have been no other similar incidents reported in the area recently. However police are stepping up patrols in the area to reassure the public.

“I would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who recognises the man from the description.”
