Building work to begin for bus and train passengers in Chandler's Ford

BUILDING work is set to start on a six-week scheme aimed at making it easier to walk to the train station and buses in the centre of Chandler's Ford.

The work, which is due to start on October 15, will include a new crossing refuge at the junction of School Lane and Bournemouth Road and updating traffic lights to give buses priority.

In addition, a stretch of pavement will be widened on Bournemouth Road from the Hendy Ford development to the junction with Chalvington Road.

The £210,000 county council project is funded by contributions from housing developers and the Department of Transport.

Good start. Now how about reinstating Wickham station and the link to Fareham as part of this new town at Knowle? Perhaps some of the aid we give to the Indian Space programme could be diverted to something a bit closer to home - ie to the people who actually paid for it.

Because walking is so freaking difficult. I hear that some people are so clever that they can walk and talk at the same time. Progress is SO underrated.
Wickham, what would be the point in giving the money back to the people who gave it in the first place? You should be in government ;-)

It's walking and texting at the same time where the problems start... can be quite difficult to cross a road.

if the powers that be have £210,000 to spare you would think they could address the problem with poor pedestrian commuters having to tangle with commuting schoolkids on bicycles !! Its not sensible having a shared footpath/cycleway between the station and bus stop :-(
