Wykeham House school in Fareham to open new school for boys

A HAMPSHIRE girls’ school has announced plans to start teaching boys.

The independent Wykeham House School in Fareham has unveiled proposals that would see it open a separate facility for boys within walking distance of its existing East Street base.

Head teacher Lynn Clarke said the plans would not see the 300-pupil school, which charges between £2,500 and £3,650 a term, become mixed-sex, with the boys’ and girls’ schools running alongside each other, not jointly.

She said: “This development is in response to repeated requests to me to provide a similar nurturing environment for boys who may be brothers of girls already at our school, or planning to join us.”

Wykeham House hopes to admit its first boys in September next year.
