Southampton Airport operator to change its name

Southampton Airport operator to change its name Southampton Airport operator to change its name

The company which operates Southampton airport is to change its name after nearly 50 years.

Airport operator BAA, formerly called British Airports Authority, will operate using the names of its four remaining UK airports.

In existence since 1965, BAA had run - until recently - as many as seven UK airports, including Heathrow.

But, following an investigation into airport competition by the Competition Commission, the company was ordered to sell Stansted, Gatwick and either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

It had since sold Gatwick and Edinburgh and, after long legal battles, is now in the process of selling Stansted.

This leaves the Spanish-owned company with four UK airports - Heathrow, Southampton, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

BAA said today that, over time, the name BAA will disappear and the relevant airport name will take its place For now, the relevant registered company number and name will appear on documents and correspondence The services provided, and all usual contacts, will remain the same.

Over time, the BAA.com website will be archived and replaced by pages on the relevant airport websites.

A 175 word article on "Southampton Airport operator to change its name" and you expect them to actually tell you what the new name is?

I think you are confusing this rag with a newspaper.

So the new name will be based on Southampton, Heathrow, Aberdeen, Glasgow" or S.H.A.G. for short.
