THE University of Winchester is hosting a live debate for candidates in the race to be Hampshire’s first Police and Crime Commissioner next month.

The public will get to hear from the Conservatives’ Michael Mates, Labour’s Jacqui Rayment, the Lib Dems’ David Goodall and Independent candidate Simon Hayes on key issues like CCTV, graffiti and drug-dealing.

The debate will be chaired by BBC South political correspondent Alex Forsyth.

The debate has been organised by a final year BA Journalism student, Louis O’Brien, as part of his work with university journalism programme Winchester News Online (WINOL), with help from Dr William Sheward, university programme leader for politics and global studies.

It will be on Thursday, November 1 at 8.30pm.

Elections take place on November 15 with the commissioner beginning duties on November 22.
