Southampton charity music festival postponed for a week

Charity music festival postponed for a week Charity music festival postponed for a week

A TWO day music extravaganza and fundraising frenzy has been postponed for a week.

The event, due to take place this weekend at Lordshill Centre, encountered eleventh hour licensing problems and has had to be put off.

Now it's a race against time for organisers to try to rebook the majority of the 16 bands due to appear, which included top Stereophonics tribute act StereoIconics.

Dave Extance, one of the team behind the mammoth gig in aid of Cancer Research UK, told the Daily Echo he was also hoping to sign up Coldplace, a leading Coldplay tribute band.

The event, the finale of a series of fundraisers which has also included water-skiing from the Isle of Wight and a sky dive, will now take place on Saturday October 27 and Sunday October 28.

Entry will be through the Mountbatten pub from 11am with a suggested donation of £8 per person.

Licensing?
I know the Landlady & this was down to objectors nothing to do with her license.
I find it very sad that a pub in the middle of a car park with no homes close could find it faced objections to a charity gig & these objections only came to light on Thursday?
Funny how we received leaflets about a fete on the Sunday at the community hall?
I will not go near that one as if it was them that objected they don't deserve my patronage

Loosehead, the hassle this objection caused has been incredible, notifying the ambulance service, fire brigade and Army who were all turning up for the kids as well as other activities, so whoever objected I hope they are happy with themselves, there was a dispute over the times of when the bands were too be finishing with licensing also, but never mind...the event is going ahead next week 27th & 28th all staging, lighting etc has been rebooked and confirmed as well as The StereoIronics and other bands already on he original billing. All we would like is everyone to come and have a cracking time, loads of activities and something for all the community. Come and support a great cause and lets raise awareness of cancer research. Of anyone requires Information then contact the pub or check the website. www.lets-beat-cancer

Weather looks fine this weekend so they would have had a good turn out.
Can'y see the church objecting to a function like this.
But it was funny that on Friday two days before their gig/function the community hall put out leaflets also it was the day after my cousin Dawn had a meeting with the police?
To many people knock this pub but it's changed a lot from the time of trouble & Dawn should get the community support she deserves & not petty objectors.

Totally agree, this is the best thing that's happened in the area for a long time, people should be with us, not against us, united we stand, let's have a cracking weekend and raise lots of money, and let people have a fantastic time.

Loosehead I'm one of the organisers along with Dave & Ron, the church haven't objected as the vicar married my wife and I and christened our baby and I also spoke to Sandy (vicar) who was looking forward to coming along.
Next weekend is meant to be good weather as well actually so lets put this all behind us and crack on with an event that hopefully raises money for CRUK. Lets show these objectors what we can do...thankfully the bands have been brilliant and the majority have no bookings next week.
I'm gutted its not this weekend but we move on. Lets party!!!

Well, you may say there are no homes close, however with the usual volume at "music festivals" these days one's home hardly needs to be "close". I live locally, I knew nothing of this music festival until I heard about it's cancellation in the Library. Can I be assured that the music will not be audible in my house or garden 5 minutes walk away?. If you wish to party fair enough, just hope I don't have to party as well.

PS I didn't receive a leaflet about the fete either.

5minutes walk away?
walk from the pub cross the car park cross a busy street & then either walk by the community hall that's having a function on sunday or walk down past the flats & you're worried about noise?
If you can object to a charity function I feel sorry for you & maybe you should look to move to one of the Islands off the Scottish coast then maybe you can moan about the noise of the waves or the wind
