CALA is sueing the Department of Communities and Local Government (under new Minister Eric Pickles) for scrapping the South East Regional Plan (along with the 6 other Regional Plans covering England).
    .
Scrapping the Plan means there are now now housing target numbers for City and other local Councils to work to.
    .
Many Councils (and their constituent public) did not like the high numbers set under the South East Plan.
    .
Now that they do not have to abide by the SE Plan numbers quite a few Local Councils have scrapped a number of their larger housing allocations (Barton Farm is just one of these).

So this is not a planning Public Inquiry. It is CALA sueing Central Government in the High Court.
    Danae, read it again.
There are two things happening: -
    1) The High Court next Friday to argue that HMG can not scrap current planning rules until the new rules are enacted.
    2) A Planning Enquiry in February.
    .
You should have noticed the word "another" in the article."

Date set for Barton Farm inquiry

Date set for Barton Farm inquiry Date set for Barton Farm inquiry

A DATE has been set for the public inquiry that will decide the fate of Barton Farm in Winchester.

The eight-day hearing will start on February 8 next year where developer, Cala Homes, will present its case.

The firm is preparing for another vital battle with campaigners trying to save the greenfield site. Both sides are heading to the High Court in London next Friday for a test case. Cala is seeking to argue that the Coalition Government cannot scrap regional planning targets until a new policy is approved.

The South East Plan called for 12,000 new homes in the Winchester district by 2026, making the development of Barton Farm more likely.

If Cala wins not only will it strengthen its own case for 2,000 homes, but those of building firms nationwide.

Save Barton Farm Group plans to bring a team of activists to protest outside the court.
